Welcome to the IowaWORKS-Southern Iowa blog. We will be using this space to provide information to the region about services we provide. As an introduction to our office, we wanted to use the first of these weekly blog posts to inform you of the wide variety of services and programs we have for you.
Our office houses the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), formerly known as WIA. WIOA is an employment training program that assists individuals increase their skill set through work experience placements, High School Equivalency Programs and additional training programs to prepare for in demand careers.
The Business Services Team offers assistance to employers in the region. Available benefits for employers include listing job openings on our website www.iowajobs.org, hosting hiring sessions for various employers in our office and in their communities, providing instruction through Employer Council of Iowa events and planning large job fair events. Job seekers can take advantage of those events and learn about them in advance by following our Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIN accounts.
IowaWORKS-Southern Iowa also presents several ways for individuals in the area to increase their ability to find a career. We have a Skills Floor with IowaWORKS employees assisting people complete online job applications, prepare resumes, or navigate online job banks like iowajobs.org. The office also hosts daily workshops related to job skills like resume preparation or interviewing skills.
And of course the most well-known service that our office provides is Unemployment Insurance Benefits. We provide a computer lab solely for filing unemployment claims and staff can provide assistance with any difficulties that may arise in the filing process. We also offer Re-Employment Services for participants receiving UI Benefits, a program designed to increase the skills and knowledge of someone seeking new employment.
That’s just a fraction of the services provided in our office. Other services include but aren’t limited to Disability Navigation, National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) Testing, Internship opportunities and computer classes.
